Set up work types and report types
Why a work order needs a work type, and why a technician needs the right report to fill out.
A work order can't be created without a work type. Without a report type mapped to it, the technician still gets a report to fill out, just a generic fallback instead of one built for the job.
Before you start
You need the Owner or Admin role.
The minimum checklist
- At least one Work type exists (Installation, Inspection, and so on come pre-built). See Set up work types.
- If the generic fallback report isn't good enough for a work type, build a Report type for it. See Set up report types.
- Map that report type to the work type, so the technician gets the right form. See Match work types to the right report.
Check it worked
Creating a work order requires picking a work type; you can't leave it blank. Open a work order that uses a work type with a report mapping, and confirm its technician's report uses that form instead of the generic one.
